Day 1
Arrival in Chengdu, capital of China’s western province of Sichuan. Transfer to hotel / Drinks and Overnight.
Day 2
Breakfast / Exploration of Chengdu, visit to Giant Panda Research and Breeding Base outside of Chengdun to learn more about these amazing endangered animals and the programmes that are being implemented to protect them and their natural habitat and have the chance to enjoy spicy dishes and hotpots for Sichuan Province is so famous / Dinner and overnight.
Day 3
Breakfast / Flight across the snowcapped Himalayas to the spectacular high – altitude city of Lhasa – the heart and soul of Tibet / Visit to Jokhang Temple on the Barhor Circuit, one of the most powerful spiritual centres on earth / Dinner and overnight
Day 4
Breakfast / Visit to the former residence of the Dalai Lama – the imposing Potala Palace. We explore some of the largest and most impressive monasteries in Tibet / Dinner and overnight.
Day 5
Breakfast / walking tour to Lhasa’s Tibetan Quarter, explore the treasures of the Tibet Museum, and views over the Lhasa Valley / Dinner and overnight.
Day 6
Breakfast / We leave Lhasa and head south into the Tibetan countryside on a days journey covering two spectacular high – altitude passes / Views over turquoise Yamdrok Lake before continuing on to Gyantse, home of the magnificent Kumbum / we take time to explore these and the delights of Beichu Monastery / Dinner and overnight.
Day 7
Breakfast / Visit to Shigatse, the Tibet’s second largest town / Exploration of the ancient buildings and alleyways of this huge complex before heading into the Tibetan Old Quarter for a short walking tour of blackstreets and local markets / Overnight.
Day 8
Breakfast / Transfer to Tsedang / From Tsedang we catch a local ferry across the Brahmaputra River to Samye Monastery and experience some beautiful views over the surrounding mountains. Samye Monastery’s significance as Tibet’s very first monastery makes it a fascinating place to visit, and we take time to explore its unique design and history / Overnight
Day 9
Breakfast / Transport from Tsedang to Lhasa and then flight back to Chengdu / Free time / Farewell dinner.
Day 10
Breakfast / Transfer to airport.
